Who Will Perform My LASER VISION CORRECTION Procedure?

Laser Vision Correction Experience at The Eye Center

Screening

A free in-office or virtual screening is an excellent opportunity to determine whether you are a candidate for one of our vision correction procedures. We take time to learn about you and make sure we match the correct procedure with your eyes, lifestyle, and age. We will also discuss pricing and financing options available for our procedures.

Pre-Operative Evaluation

Prior to surgery, you will have a pre-operative evaluation with Dr. Risch, where additional measurements and tests are performed. You and Dr. Risch will then discuss your goals and expectations, and you may ask any questions you have about your procedure.

Surgery Day

Surgery day is always filled with excitement and a day we look forward to. You will receive medication to relax you when you arrive to help settle any nerves you may have. Dr. Risch fully believes in a calming and relaxed atmosphere. He will walk you through mindful meditation and relaxing breathing exercises throughout your surgery process. The procedure takes approximately 8-10 minutes per eye and then you will be able to return home to rest.

LASIK, laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, is a commonly performed laser eye procedure where a thin flap is created on the front surface of the eye (cornea). An excimer laser is then used to reshape the cornea by correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism to improve vision. It has a very quick recovery process with most patients being able to pass a driver’s test and return to work within a few days.

PRK, photorefractive keratectomy, like LASIK, also uses an excimer laser to gently reshape the front surface of the cornea, however, a corneal flap is not created. It yields the same excellent results as LASIK but has a longer, slower healing process. It requires a few additional days off work and can take several weeks to receive sharp, clear vision. It is suitable for patients with thinner corneas, those with concerns about dry eye, active lifestyles, or with an interest in a less invasive procedure.

What if I am Not a Candidate for Laser Vision Correction?

Thanks to the tremendous changes in technology, we can now treat a large range of prescriptions, including those who have been told in the past they are not candidates for LASIK or PRK. A few of these procedures include:

Common Vision Eye Conditions

NEARSIGHTED

FARSIGHTED

ASTIGMATISM

Nearsightedness also known as myopia, is an eye condition that makes distant objects appear blurry. This can happen when the eye is too long, or the cornea or lens is abnormally shaped, causing light to focus in front of the retina, instead of on it.

Farsightedness also known as hyperopia, is an eye condition that makes near objects appear blurry. This can happen when the eye is too short, or the cornea or lens is abnormally shaped, causing light to focus behind the retina, instead of on it.

Astigmatism is a common eye condition that causes blurry vision at all distances. It occurs when either the cornea or lens inside the eye has mismatched curves. The eye is shaped more like a football, instead of the normal, round shape of a baseball.

Does Insurance Cover Laser Vision Correction?

The most common questions we receive about refractive surgery focus on the cost or financing options available.

Insurance companies consider refractive surgery procedures elective or cosmetic, which means they do not cover the procedure.

Some vision insurance carriers offer a discount on Laser Vision Correction procedures, we are happy to look at your insurance during your screening to see if you could benefit from any type of discount.

What Payment Options are Available

  • Cash-Check-Credit Card-HSA/FSA
    • Up front discount available with these options
