Refractive Lens Exchange

Schedule a FREE Screening Today!

What is RLE?

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is an elective procedure for patients over the age of 40 who wish for glasses and contact lens independence at both distance and near.   It involves the removal of the eye’s natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct your vision.  The technology involved in RLE is safer and more effective than ever and has been used successfully worldwide for years. It prevents the formation of cataracts in the future and is a permanent vision result.  Many people are achieving a higher level of visual freedom than they have ever experienced before.

How Does the Procedure Work?

During the RLE procedure, a very tiny incision is made in the eye where the natural lens will be removed. Then, an intraocular lens (IOL) will be placed in the eye. There are a variety of types of IOLs available, and your surgeon at The Eye Center will work with you to determine the best lens option for your lifestyle. The procedure is performed in our surgery center under light anesthesia.
