Dr. Patrick Risch was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where his parents still live. He has four siblings, all of whom are proud Razorbacks. While he may be the only Sooner in the family, he knows how to call the Hogs, and he is happy to call Fayetteville his home. As a child, much of his free time was spent following his father at his Veterinary medicine practice. This is what initially piqued his interest in medicine. In high school, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated valedictorian.
He attended the University of Oklahoma on a National Merit Scholarship, where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He spent one year in Connecticut while completing his internship at Saint Raphael’s Hospital. Dr. Risch then matriculated to the University of Tennessee, where he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Witnessing the life-changing impact of vision restoration by cataract surgery inspired Dr. Risch to become an Ophthalmologist. He specializes in surgical Ophthalmology and has performed more than 16,000 cataract surgeries since coming to The Eye Center in 2015.
Dr. Risch understands that today’s cataract patients are living more active lifestyles than ever before and often want greater freedom from glasses or contact lenses. He meets the needs of his cataract patients with modern techniques such as the implantation of Advanced Technology Intraocular lenses, to help patient’s achieve their visual goals.
Dr. Risch also performs LASIK, PRK, and refractive lens exchange. Since moving to Fayetteville, Dr. Risch has picked up meditation and become the proud father of three children—both of which keep him grounded and focused on the present.
When he’s away from the clinic, Dr. Risch enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. He is now an avid golfer; he was introduced to the game by his father-in-law and has enjoyed chasing improvement ever since. He currently carries a 25 golf handicap and is always looking forward to his next round. You’ll also find him on the court for regular pickup basketball games with a longtime group of seasoned gentlemen at the University of Arkansas HPER Center. Among his many accomplishments, he’s especially proud of being crowned The Eye Center Cornhole Champion of 2026—a title his coworkers will tell you he doesn’t let anyone forget.
